Creating a cohesive experience through interior strategy

From the August 2024 issue of 517 Magazine, here’s a recap of my tips for elevating your brand through interior design:

  1. Make it Obvious
The first step to creating a seamless experience is to ensure that your design reflects your brand’s identity. From the exterior throughout your facility, this involves incorporating your brand colors, logo and other visual elements. If your brand exudes luxury and sophistication, opt for high-end materials, like marble and velvet, and choose a palette that conveys elegance, such as deep hues and metallics that complement your logo. Meanwhile, a brand focused on sustainability might use eco-friendly materials, natural light and earthy tones. You want your whole space to exude what your brand is about.

  2. Be Consistent
Every part of your space should convey the same message. This consistency helps reinforce your brand identity and makes it easier for customers to remember your business. Use the same style of furniture, lighting and décor throughout your space.

  3. Enhance the Journey
A thoughtful layout that guides customers through your business can improve their experience and leave a lasting impression. Retail stores often create intuitive pathways that lead people through different sections, highlighting key products along the way. Restaurants provide seating arrangements that accommodate different group sizes and preferences, creating a welcoming atmosphere for all customers. Recognizing how people will utilize your space is key to creating an ideal experience.

  4. Focus on Comfort and Functionality
Aesthetics are key, but it’s also important to ensure that your space is comfortable for both customers and employees. Ergonomic furniture, ample seating and well-designed rest areas can make a huge difference in everyone’s morale. Truly functional spaces that allow for easy movement and access to products or services reflect an approach centered on well-being.

  5. Make it Personal
Displaying local artwork, incorporating custom-made furniture, or using décor that tells a story about your brand or community can create a more intimate and memorable experience for customers.
