Blog Edition | Serving Up Thanksgiving Style
Finding your inspiration in the kitchen
One of my favorite things to thrift is vintage kitchenware. I have a hard time saying no to vintage glass and silver. Punch bowls, candy dishes, serve ware, salt & pepper shakers … if it’s old and belongs on a table surrounded by love and laughter, I can’t pass it up. I like to imagine the decades of happy memories stored in these items and I do little more than remove their price tags before I start dreaming of ways to incorporate them into my aesthetic. What better time to bring out as many as I can than a holiday that celebrates coming together for a feast?
Since none of my displays are complete without an assortment of dollar store florals and miscellaneous items I find in nature, I went to my inventory and pulled out some favorites that feel particularly autumnal. I laid them all out in a huge pile on my dining room table and began to play. I’m sharing a collection of looks I came up with to serve as inspiration for your own fall decor.
I created two different centerpieces that can be used together or placed around in different areas of my home. Here’s what they consist of:
A partial spool of burlap and a super cheap cheesecloth runner as a foundation
An upside down woven serving tray over a glass cake stand to add texture beneath the white florals
A tarnished gravy boat with delicate white flowers
A lotus dish centerpiece with orange slices I made out of our neglected fruit bowl
A sweet silver candy dish with orange slices and flowers
The Anchor Hocking fruit bowl bursting with texture and color atop the same cake glass cake stand as the other display
The assortment of feathers and foliage in the heavy wine goblet
Not one of these items cost me more than $5 and most were less than $2, but I feel like they all look incredibly rich and add plenty of seasonal flavor to my home. The best part of this kind of decorating is that it serves as a beautiful excuse to use retired pieces that might not fit your table but deserve to be part of family celebrations.
I put together a list of finds on Amazon that will help achieve this look if you want to skip the scavenging and just order it to be delivered.
